Spanish Film Festival

Hi Ladies,

Is this an omen, is someone trying to tell us we should all be going on a pilgrimage to Spain???? Who has their walking boots ready?
I took Benny for a big walk this afternoon.
I loved the book launch and thought that Ailsa was just lovely, it was quite thought provoking, her blog is worth looking into, I know Babs has already checked it out . It might be of special interest to you Merryn as she mentions that she will be in Sydney later this month, you could mention if you go to see her that The Breakfast at Tiffanies Bookclub was at Aziza's.

Who is up for going to see a Spanish movie during the festival?  The one on the 5th sounds pretty cool, or should I say hot and spicy, especially by then most of us will have read some of Shades of Grey .
I also think it would be great to come along to our next meeting with a new word in Spanish, why not , let's broaden our horizons!!!!

Will send out more details re meeting etc soon

Audrey xx

AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT
The gorgeous Salma Hayek stars in this riveting satire about an out of work advertising executive who inadvertently becomes an overnight news phenomenon when an accident puts him in mortal danger. From his life-threatening predicament, Roberto (Jose Mota) seizes the opportunity as a chance to sell his story to the highest bidder and provide for his family. Engrossing at every turn, maverick Spanish filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia’s film is a biting satire about the machinations of today’s sensation-hungry media. Seamlessly moving between drama and black comedy, the heart of the film lies in the pitch-perfect performances from Mota, in his big-screen debut, and the always brilliant Hayek.

ELENA [M] Advance Screenings this weekend
Join us at advance screenings of ELENA [M] this weekend at Palace Balwyn, Brighton Bay, Cinema Como and Kino Cinemas.
The winner of the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize at Cannes 2011, the new film from Russian maestro Andrey Zvyagintsev (The Return) is a taut & engrossing moral tale of loyalties, familial ties, and a coveted inheritance.
Middle-aged couple Elena (Nadezhda Markina) and Vladimir (Andrey Smirnov), come from different walks of society. He is a well-off businessman; she is a former medical worker, now a housewife. Having met late in life, each has children from previous marriages. Elena’s son is unemployed and constantly asking for money. Vladimir’s daughter is a careless young woman whose contact with her father is irregular and strained. Their worlds rupture when a heart attack puts Vladimir in hospital and he makes a significant decision: his daughter will be the only heiress of his wealth. The shy and submissive Elena’s hopes of helping her son and grandchildren secure a better life are crushed, triggering a desperate plan…
With ELENA, Zvyagintsev conjures a riveting and uncompromising vision of a Russia in moral disarray, and a masterful insight into human nature.

TAKE THIS WALTZ [MA15+]
When Margot (Michelle Williams), 28, meets Daniel (Luke Kirby), their chemistry is intense and immediate. But Margot suppresses her sudden attraction; she is happily married to Lou (Seth Rogen), a cookbook writer. When Margot learns that Daniel lives across the street from them, the certainty about her domestic life shatters. She and Daniel steal moments throughout the steaming Toronto summer, their eroticism heightened by their restraint.
Swelteringly hot, bright and colorful like a bowl of fruit, TAKE THIS WALTZ leads us, laughing, through the familiar, but uncharted question of what long‐term relationships do to love, sex, and our images of ourselves. It's a funny, bittersweet tale of love. Director Sarah Polley (Away From Her) has created a sensual film, full of moments oscillating between joy and comedy and heartbreak.

BRAVE [PG] 3D - Advance Previews this weekend
Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin(voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
